AC Milan v FC Internazionale Milano - Serie A

Wesley Sneijder returns to the Santiago Bernabeu as an opponent, but above all, he will meet with José Mourinho, the coach with whom he won everything with during his time at Inter. With just one day left until the meeting in the Champions League between Real Madrid and Galatasaray the former Inter midfielder confesses in an interview with Marca that he still has a special affection for the coach from Setubal: “I like Real, but if I’m going to say who I love most it is undoubtedly Mourinho who has been like a second father to me. Since I met him, I must say that we have worked out as coaches and not just as a players. He does it, no doubt. He is a very special person to me, he gave me confidence from the very beginning when I arrived at Inter and I took advantage of the situation and played like I’ve never done since. He is a true friend.”

What is it that makes Mourinho so important? “Well, it is not easy to explain, you have to be close to him to understand it. I would say that he is not like other coaches, he is special. His key is that he knows how to convince you, how to help you when you don’t do well. He is always aware of everything and always knows how to help players. Sometimes he does one thing, sometimes he does another, but everything is always done for the best of the team. This is why I just have good things to say about him.”

Sneijder was also asked about the future of Mou: “Every day, things pop up in the press that are too unfounded to be true. I don’t know if he will leave, but you ask me, I would find it strange if he left Real Madrid this soon as the work he does here is something special.”

The Dutchman also reveals that although the season before joining Inter was difficult, “also because of problems of a personal nature,” he still has good memories of the adventure with Los Blancos, “I still have many friends in Madrid and so many incredible memories of the experience. I don’t understand why I would have bad memories of that period. How Real-Galatasaray ends? We have great confidence, we are a good team and we will go out on the pitch at the Bernabeu with a belief that we can do something good. Real are favorites, but we’ll see what happens.”
