In an exclusive interview with Sky Sport Italia, Erick Thohir reflected on the current form of his Nerazzurri side: “We’re in an excellent position, the results are fantastic and so is the feeling within the squad. We had a great transfer window but I’m focused on the present now. Serie A is a tough league – there are six or seven clubs that can compete to win it.

“We’re concentrated and we need to keep our feet on the ground and not get carried away by our good results and all the expectations around us. The first five games have not been easy, but thanks to the solidity of the team and Mancini’s character we managed to win them all. We’re delighted – there’s no denying that.

“Juventus being off the pace is another one of football’s surprises. My relationship with Mancini is growing – obviously I don’t know him well given that he only arrived in November. We speak often on the telephone and sometimes just send messages due to the time difference. I saw him yesterday. We both believe in the project, even though it can never be a perfect project because nothing in life or business is perfect.

“Mancini has a strong character, a great personality and is a coach that makes your job a whole lot easier. There’s a really positive atmosphere within the squad and he provides a huge boost to that and to the commercial face of the club, because he is an Inter icon. I as president and we as a team must support him.

“Our philosophy is to bring the best people with the best mentalities to Inter. And I believe that we’re building something exciting right now. In regard to further investment in January, we’ll see what happens on the field first. We need to keep growing match by match. Obviously some players will come and others will go, in order to keep our squad size stable. We can’t have 30 players, but we’ll do something,” declared Thohir.

Finally, the Inter president spoke about tonight’s big match against second-placed Fiorentina: “I want to win tonight. It’s really exciting to watch a match between first and second in the table. We want to get the three points and we want the team to perform for the fans, given that we’re playing at home.”
