It’s a two-match ban for Inter midfielder Felipe Melo. This was decided by Gerardo Mastandrea, the President of the Federal Court of Appeal.

The Brazilian was sent off towards the end of the match against Sassuolo, after receiving 2 yellow cards, has been slapped with a 2-match ban  due to “a disrespectful attitude towards the referee.

Therefore, Melo will miss the match against Lazio and the first Serie A fixture of 2017 against Udinese. Joao Mario will also be suspended after being booked against Sassuolo leaving Pioli in quite a sticky situation as Marcelo Brozović is the only starting midfielder left given that Medel is injured, Bange and Kondogbia have both been out of form. Stefano Pioli could be forced to deploy a midfield trio consisting of Brozovic, Kondogbia and Banega.
