Atletico Madrid director Angel Gil Martin reiterated that Diego Simeone would be staying at Atletico Madrid: “I do not see a near departure for Diego. He wants to stay not only next year but in the years to come as well. His Champions League loss in Milano was a disappointment so strong, that he is headset on finding glory for Atletico. In Madrid, Simeone said he has found his place in the world and I think Atletico has found its coach in the world. We grew up with Simeone and he grew up with us. I do not see the moment of his departure because we’re very much enjoying this relationship where we’re all striving to win.”
The director then spoke about the eventual life without Simeone: “However, Atletico was born before Simeone and will die after him and me as well. We are convinced of his ethic and we’d like for him to stay as long as he wants but it’s always smart to think about the day after he’s gone. I only hope that the day is as far away as possible.”
