The first order of business in January seems to be the acquisition of Lucas Leiva and the parting of Felipe Melo.

Corriere dello Sport confims, “Lucas Leiva, who sat on the bench for a full 90 minutes against Stoke City yesterday, is the first option for Inter’s midfield because they can acquire him on loan with a purchase option to be exercised next season. The only thing missing is the OK from Inter’s Chinese owners.”

In yesterday’s post-match interview, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp remained vague on the subject: “I do not comment on the rumors of these types of subjects. I have nothing to say.” Even then, though, the feel around the Liverpool grounds is that the 29 year-old’s time at Anfield is coming to an end. Leiva’s arrival at Inter would not take up someone else’s slot, at Gnoukouri has his suitcase packed, Melo looks to be on the way out and there are rumors Geoffrey Kondogbia could be changing scene as well.

Elsewhere, Criscito and Darmian are still on Inter’s radar as is Luiz Gustavo. Zhang Jindong stayed in Milano after Inter’s 3-0 rout of Lazio to discuss the early maneuvers of the January transfer window.
