In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Marcelo Lippi spoke about Milan’s triumph in Doha in the Supercoppa as well as Inter’s situation.

“Usually, Juve does not fail in matches such as these. They’ll mess up against a Genoa every once in a while but never like this. I saw an unexpected and sudden drop in their play. A team that was tired, spent, erroneous and didn’t press; giving Milan the upper hand. It probably won’t change the outcome of their season, however, I understand Allegri’s anger. Juve had the wrong attitude. But they’ll recover.”

What do you think of Milan’s new owners?

“Everyone knows Inter’s Suning. They’re a power. A global force. Nobody knows anything about Milan’s new owners. Only now are names being released and we don’t know them.”

Inter’s situation right now?

“It’s a bit of an enigma; it’s puzzling. But it seems as if Pioli has found the right path. I like Pioli. He’s square, wise and is seemingly giving to the team what they’ve been missing. There was no balance before. Inter didn’t know how to manage games. Now, Pioli is growing the players who, previously with De Boer, had no feeling; Brozovic and Banega for example. Then there’s Icardi who has world class talent. It’s looking up for Inter.”

Most impressive team of the year?

“No doubt Atalanta. But I don;t just mean their surge in the rankings, I mean the way they play. Aggressive in all areas. Insertions, vertical runs, little possession, but quick cuts. They often find the back of the net with this play. We see the work of Gasperini here. He had a rough outing as Inter’s coach, but, ehrm, he was not the only one.”
