Former Inter and current Watford manager Walter Mazzarri spoke with Calcio2000 on his tenure in charge of the Nerazzurri: “It was a great result [qualifying for UCL] considering that particular historical moment. For that situation, I think getting into Europe was a miracle and I add that it is wrong to think that Inter should have won the Scudetto only for the name. What did I think of the team I inherited? So many difficulties, players retiring or due to and a president who would soon sell the club. Few could have done better. My time at Inter is remembered as a disaster, but it is not true. There is a potential that isn’t good for Inter, with €70 million of wages built up and exaggerated and inflated values of players when compared to Mourinho’s squad. I did not know that Moratti had plans to sell the majority, I was not aware. At that time there were so many offers, both in Italy and in Europe and all by top business people. It was a great challenge for me.”
