Mauro Icardi’s hattrick was instrumental in yesterday’s demolition of Atalanta at the San Siro which allowed his Inter to leapfrog Atalanta in the Serie A standings.

The three goals also had a historic aspect in that Icardi beat a 69 year old record set by Benito Lorenzi on October 26th 1947 when the Italian striker nicknamed Veleno scored 3 goals in 14 minutes when Inter beat Lucchese 6-0. It took the Inter captain only 9 minutes to repeat the feat setting a new record for fastest hattrick ever scored by an Inter player.
