Former Inter defender Marco Materazzi spoke to Corriere dello Sport, starting out speaking on Stefano Pioli:

“When he arrived he found a bad situation. If Inter call you can’t say no, but if you accept certain adventures the risk of burning is greater. Pioli was good and bunched up the environment. Would I keep him on? I would say so, but I do not know what the owners will do. Those expecting the arrival of Mourinho after Mancini in 2008 when Inter won the Scudetto? Pioli wants to stay at Inter and he will strive for reappointment. The best manager is not free because he manages Manchester United, but there are also other very good managers. Conte has proven to be great in all the teams where he has worked. Together with Ancelotti, Conte is the best Italian coach.

He then spoke on how he’d build a winning Inter:

“Creating a hard core of Italians. Suning has just arrived, but they understood how it works and will move in this direction. Which Italians would I sign? Verratti can be important, ditto Bernardeschi and then there is Berardi. Which defender would I sign? I would forever have Manolas in my team. For three years I’ve said that.”

He then answered some short questions:

Who has been Suning’s best buy?

“Gagliardini has had an incredible impact. But be careful of Gabigol. He is not just someone who can excite the fans and in Bologna showed that.”

Do you dream of working for Inter?

“It’s a wish, not an obsession because, whatever happens, my Inter story will never end. I gave a lot, if not all, for the Nerazzurri shirt. But I’d rather be a free man because freedom does not have a price.”
