Stefano Pioli tried to analyse the set-back at San Siro to Premium Sport: “We missed an opportunity, unfortunately after Sampdorias equaliser we lost all kind of organisation. We had the will and the character to turn this around but without any balance it’s hard against an opponent that moves the ball around well. It’s a shame because if we could have stayed a bit more in the game we could have won. A game that we came to with the right approach, right preparation, but we lacked setting up the team in a way where we could benefit from being dangerous. We have to be more of a team, we conceded the equaliser but we have to continue to play to the end. We had two opportunities where Perisic and Icardi could have gotten us the advantage. That’s a shame”.

“Brozovic? I thought that in a game like this the best couple to be constructive and move the ball was those two.”

“The penalty? Naive, but it was a penalty. We have the right attitude to win but we reacted in the wrong way to their goal. If we could have been more compact we would have interrupted their possession, when we instead got less compact we got nervous and everything got more difficult. The will of winning got us to loose our focus, we stopped playing as a team”.

“What I feel about next year? This is not my problem, I only have to think about improving the team and get them to perform at their best because our position in the standings doesn’t depend on tonight’s result. About the future no one knows anything, this is not my primary concern. We want to have something good at the end of the season which will bring us confidence for the next games”.
