Mauro Icardi analysed the defeat against Sampdoria to Sky: “Goodbye to the UCL? I would say yes after this defeat, it wouldn’t be right to say that we still can make it. Now we aim for the Europa League and will try to finish the championship in the best possible way. Our fatigue in the second half could have been due to the International break, a lot of travelling that could have affected the performance tonight. We did really well in the first half, creating a lot of opportunities. In the second half we stopped playing and running and that is something that you will suffer from. The result from today depends only on us, not our opponents. We have done well under Pioli, we have changed mentality and this is what have brought us were we are today. But we can’t throw a game away like we did today. The pass from Candreva took a nasty bounce, he did infact apologise but I told him it was only my fault. I should have scored. The offside? I immediately noticed that I wasn’t, I waited until the last moment to fire and then everybody told me it was in a regular position. I think our fall was due to physicality, we were well organised but they took advantage of our mistakes. Pioli is the right person for Inter, he has changed a lot and we can’t blame the Mister for a lost game. We are the ones that take the field. Argentina? Of course that would be an honour, but if I return tired as my teammates it’s better to stay in Milan (laughing). I work hard, if I get the call-up I’ll do well. Gagliardini has made a great impression since he arrived, he has the physicality, he has played a lot but we have a lot of good players to substitute him if he woul get injured “.
