Danilo D'Ambrosio

Danilo D’Ambrosio spoke to TuttoMercatoWeb in the aftermath of today’s 2-0 victory against Bayern Munich: “We are very happy and we are growing, but we have not done anything yet. In any case, winning breeds more wins, and helps you train with a smile. We must gain confidence after the negative results of the last few seasons, so every victory is important to us.”

How are things going with the new coach?

“I already knew his charisma and his interpretation of football. He will certainly be very important and will give us a big hand to reach our goals. We are talking about a coach with so much personality and well-defined footballing principles.”

Tactically speaking, Spalletti is open to the possibility of using a three-man defence.

“Yes, we have spoken about that and we have been working on it. However, I am convinced the formation is not the most important aspect as long as we are working with the humility, hunger and determination that the group needs to reach the Champions League.”

How have the new signings settled in? In particular Škriniar, since you will often play alongside him.

“I will have to earn a starting place, just like I always do. Every season is a fresh start, with the aim of securing a starting berth. As for Milan, he is a player who has already learned Spalletti’s concepts of football. I am sure he will also help us a lot.”

Is reaching the World Cup squad your number one goal?

“That is still very far into the future. I am looking at the present, with the will to improve day after day. My priority is to play well for the Nerazzurri and after that we will see whether or not I am called up to play for the national team.”

And finally, Fiorentina and Roma will not be an easy start to Serie A…

“True, it will not be easy, but we must look forward to those games with the right attitude. Matches can be easy or difficult, but it’s up to us. We must think about ourselves, which is what has been missing in recent seasons.”
