Inter captain Mauro Icardi spoke to Corriere dello Sport on Luciano Spalletti and his impact since becoming the Nerazzurri manager earlier this summer: “What I knew about Spalletti? Not that much. I saw him play very good football with Roma. What’s struck me about him? His attacking game. He likes beautiful football and has clear ideas on how to put it into practice. We needed a Coach like him. As soon as Pioli came in, he was able to send positive values to the team. We followed him and had won nine games out of 10, but then there was a sudden drop of heads and it ended the way it did. Spalletti’s like a hammer and we’re changing our attitudes. With him, any distractions aren’t allowed. My first conversation with him? He said simple things, that we had to do things better than we did the past, that it was necessary for us to change our way of working on the pitch, during the week and on Sundays. He was right because if we continued as we did before, we wouldn’t have gone anywhere.”
