To the microphones of Sky this is what Luciano Spalletti had to say about tonight’s game against Bologna: “Lost points? Clearly, in these games we should try to win them instead of not losing them, which was the case today. We must always create important and dangerous situations, instead it was them who put us in trouble. We had too much posession centrally and wasted some good things, the ball has to move around faster. This is what I will say to the team, but these games also gives us experience and allow players to understand: now you can try to do something more, be faster, be more courageous. How we moved the ball? They pressed us a lot which meant there was more space centrally but we did not move the ball around like we have done before. Much better in the second half though.

Perisic and Candreva too wide? Sometimes we like to take the more comfortable position and get out of the center, taking the ball back. This is easier but does not create any space, the fullback and the external on the pitch have to be used more, tonight we could have done more harm in those siutations but we were too slow. That is a good way to sum things up, the ball traveled too slow. This means that we helped Bologna a lot, our distances were not correct and that meant that they could find their midfielder and change the play as they wanted to. We need to improve our speed both with and without the ball.”
