In a long interview with Tuttosports, former Inter captain nad Sky Pundit Beppe Bergomi discusses about Atalanta and their academy:

“Atalanta is a real school of football. The guys who are working there are pretty much hungry and I really care about them. In Zingonia there is the philosophy to educate the kids with new techniques. It is almost similar with that of Spanish football. Initially the job was very difficult but once they acquired the skill it is easy to pass. Favini started it all.”

“If you really believe in boys, then you need to have faith in coaches too who will devote themselves exclusively to the youth sectors and will consider the job very serious. After that the focus is shifted to the results.

“The special thing about Atalanta academy is they even focus on small things like how to stop a ball or what postures you should maintain during a football match. These are very very important.”

Then the Lo Zio moved his focus to Inter midfielder Roberto Gagliardini:

“I also trained Roberto when I was in Zingonia, and I really liked his technical skills. He worked hard and improved his skills. At Inter he also showed how you need to control the ball well.”
