Signed during the summer by the Nerazzurri but the young talented Italian centre back Alessandro Bastoni will spend the next two seasons in Bergamo on loan. Under the guidance of coach Gian Piero Gasperini, Bastoni is expected to develop into one of the best defenders in the league in a few years time. He spoke to L’Ultimo Uomo about his growth and also his idol, Real Madrid defender, Sergio Ramos.

On Ramos: “He is not the classic defender but he likes to set up play. I also have a chance to improve my play in such way. At the youth sector we are taught on how to keep the ball on the ground and play. With the midfielders now marked by the opposition, responsibilities for the defenders will increase further”

You mentioned Maldini, Thiago Silva and Toloi as your idols in the past. How did your Brazilian teammate help you?

Toloi is a classic Brazilian. He is good at defending as well as going forward. Masiello likes the way he opposes his attacker with ease. Caldara likes his simplicity. I feel fortunate to train around these players”

You also said that one and a half hour with the first team is equivalent to three hours with the primavera. How are you coping with this?

Gasperini has help us a lot with this. Although our training is not that long but the intensity of the training and game concept are on a different level. This has also help me a lot when I am with the National Team. I think it is difficult going from the primavera to the first team to adapt to the intensity of the game.”
