Italian media outlet Calciomercato.com report that Fiorentina coach Stefano Pioli has identified Inter full-back Davide Santon as an ideal reinforcement when the transfer window opens in January.

According to the report, the former Inter and Lazio tactician relishes the idea to be reunited with the former Newcastle United player and has told the Viola directors of this fact. Given the poor performances of South-American full-back Maxi Oliveira, Fiorentina are keen to offload him when the transfer window opens next summer and see Santon as the ideal replacement.

Davide Santon came up through the youth ranks at Inter’s Primavera team and was given his first senior team start by Portuguese tactician José Mourinho during the 2008/2009 season at the age of 17, which prompted Mourinho to give him the nickname ‘il bambino’ or little boy in Italian.

Despite having broken through at such a young age, Santon struggled to impress after Mourinho left the Nerazzurri and was sold to Newcastle United in January 2011 before returning back to Inter exactly 4 years later, in January 2015.
