Atalanta director Giocondo Martorelli has praised Inter ahead of their game away at the San Siro tonight. Inter’s positive start to the season has come as no surprise to him and he believes that Inter could even contend for the Scudetto this year.

Speaking to TuttoMercatoWeb he said “Inter do not surprise me. I said at the start of the season that they would be among the title contenders. They have a great squad at their disposal and a high quality manager too. Not playing in European competitions this season will also help them. Inter are not a surprise package. They are anything but that.”

Speaking about tonights match-up at the San Siro he said “playing against Atalanta is never easy. Inter will start as favourites but ‘La Dea’ can get a positive result.”

Martorelli also spoke about Gianpiero Gasparini’s brief time in charge at Inter back in 2012 arguing that “he wasn’t given the opportunity to start his project at Inter. Moratti could have just as easily sent him packing the day after he signed him. There is an environment at Inter where if not everyone is on the same side, then things start to go wrong. Inter didn’t give him an opportunity to even start his work. Gasperini’s time there was just a brief parenthesis” Martorelli concluded.
