Former Inter coach Stefano Piolo shared his thoughts on what needs to be done for the Italian national team to return to the summit of world football in a press conference ahead of today’s 3 pm CET fixture away against S.P.A.L. at the Stadio Paolo Mazza in Ferrara.

The former Lazio coach admitted that “it hurts knowing that Italy is not going to the World Cup next year in Russia but now is the time to restart and make room for some changes and improvements. I am thinking about the athletic culture, structures as well as the club owners but also to utilize the enormous knowledge and experience we have in Italy in former players like Paolo Maldini, Francesco Totti, Giuseppe Bergomi and very soon also Gianluigi Buffon. We have to invest in them and find a good manager that can re-build the national team and our way of thinking about football.”
