After a poor first half, Mauro Icardi scored 2 headers in the space of 9 minutes to send Inter to second place in Serie A teable, just 2 points off of Napoli. Milan Skriniar was his usual mountain of a defender as Inter looked more solid than ever and genuinely played like a big club. Spalletti finally made a change to the starting lineup bringing in Davide Santon instead of Yuto Nagatomo.

Samir Handanovic – 6: Samir didn’t have much to do, but keep himself awake for that 1-2 chances that might fall Atalanta’s way. Did that and looked very confident.

Danilo D’Ambrosio – 6.5: This is more like the D’Ambrosio we like. Gambled a little bit and that paid rich dividends tonight. Could have easily got another assist as well.

Milan Skriniar – 7: Every game the only thing that changes is the name of attacker that is bullied. Tonight it was Papu and Petagna. Smart, effective, simple. Boss.

Joao Miranda – 7: Looks like his evil twin brother is now gone. We have the original one back. Great performance, almost mirrored Skriniar and kept his side quiet.

Davide Santon – 6: First full game in more than 6 months. Didn’t cause major problems but helped us move the ball better. Got beaten 1-2 times as he tired later on.

Roberto Gagliardini – 6.5: Helped out Skriniar and Miranda a lot. Doesn’t dwell on the ball for long. He needs to not give the ball away in the center circle though.

Matias Vecino – 5.5: Missing for most of the 90 mins tonight. Did the tough work of battling against 2-3 mids who closed down strong and quick, not his best game.

Antonio Candreva – 7:  Always gives 100%. He started well, then made a few mistakes but was impervious in the 2nd half. That free kick was perfect and broke Atalanta.

Borja Valero – 5.5:  That magical flick in the first half to send Icardi through was beautiful. Was pushed around a lot but he needs to be dynamic if he plays in the number 10 role.

Ivan Perisic – 5: Another game where Ivan was everywhere but not where he is most effective. Roamed around quite a lot but never threatened to score or make an assist.

Mauro Icardi – 8: Missed an easy chance in the first half but came back strongly in the 2nd half. 13 goals in 13 Serie A matches. Led from the front and battled all night.

Marcelo Brozovic – 5.5: Looked off the pace in his 15 mins or so. Borja looked 10 years younger compared to Marcelo tonight. His touch evaded him, nothing to write home about.

Joao Mario – N/A: 10 minutes just to get some confidence going as he scored his first for Portugal during the international break. Not enough time to show anything.

Eder – N/A: Just ran the entire injury time. Explosive pace will be useful sometime in this season for sure.

Luciano Spalletti – 7: Poor first half, but realised what was wrong and there is nothing that can replace experience. Great second half that we played like a big club.

Michael Fabbri – 6: Let the play flow sometimes a bit too much, missed a couple of obvious fouls on both sides but a breath of fresh air for the Serie A enthusiasts.

Inter – 7: Their first half performance was very meek. After they regrouped, they showed us why we are unbeaten and why we should be hopeful.
