Santos are prepared to begin negotiations with Inter over a loan move for Gabriel Barbosa according to reports coming out of the strikers native Brazil.

With influential playmaker Lucas Lima leaving Santos following the expiry of his contract, the Santos hierarchy are on the lookout for a new focal point in the side and have identified their former protege as the man.

Barbosa, who joined Inter from the Brazilian outfit, is currently on loan to Portuguese club Benfica but has not enjoyed the success or playing time he would have hoped for. The 21-year-old has managed just four appearances in all competitions this season for the Eagles and has managed to score one goal.

Gabigol joined Inter in 2016 for around €30 million as the Nerazzurri fought off competition from some of Europe’s elite from his signature but he has failed to replicate what he achieved in the white of Santos. In 83 games for Santos, the 2016 Rio Olympics Gold medallist netted 24 goals and assisted 12 times.
