Ahead of yesterday’s Serie A fixture in Sardinia when Cagliari hosted Inter at the Sardegna Arena, the Nerazzurri Sporting Director Piero Ausilio stopped by Premium Sport to give his traditional pre-match talk.

Given the latest weeks rumours regarding Real Madrid’s interest in the Inter captain, Ausilio was asked if the Nerazzurri are planning on removing the minimum release fee clause in Mauro Icardi’s contract to which he replied: “it is not a matter of clauses but it is a question of what you want to be and he wants to be important for Inter. He wants to stay with us for a long time and win, we have always stood still as a club. He may seem like quite the discovery as man and as a captain but this is not the case for us, we have begun a project on him and we count a lot on him, and now his stats show that we were right to do so.”

In conclusion Ausilio was asked if Inter are prepared to give Icardi a life long contract to which he replied “the rules only allow for a maximum of five years, maybe we can renew a lot of contracts, that is already something.”
