In the upcoming January transfer window, Benfica have the intention of reducing their squad size from 29 to 24.

According to Portuguese outlet Record, loanee Gabriel Barbosa could well be among the five to say farewell to the Estadio da Luz club.

Since his arrival, Gabigol, as he is otherwise known, has failed to live up to the expectations, much like at Inter, and found first team playing time limited to just five games for the Portuguese club. Moreover, the 21-year-old Brazilian breached club protocol when he was caught out clubbing in the early hours of a match day.

Douglas, Lisandro López, Eliseu, Filipe Augusto, Martin Chrien and Chris Willock are the other names at risk of being moved on in January.

Should Gabigol’s loan spell be cut short, he is likely to be loaned out again elsewhere for the remainder of the season with a wealth of interest coming from his homeland.
