The day after Inter’s struggling win on penalties against Pordenone in the Coppa Italia, former captain Andrea Ranocchia spoke exclusively to Mediaset Premium: “When we are up top we become a nuisance to everyone else, it’s normal that we start to gain more enemies compared to when you are in lower parts of the league table. We are aware of our strengths & qualities, we are working hard with the manager & his staff & we are creating something important.”

When asked if there was more pressure on the team now they are top he replied “No I don’t think so. We stick to the plans we work on during the week, we leave the pressures outside. We continue to be a group & carry on toward our objectives. We are working well but we need to continue to believe in ourselves & what we are building here. The teams we play will always give their all because that’s the way it is when you’re winning. We just need to remain aware of who we are & keep moving forward.”

When asked about the game against Pordenone he said “when you fail to make the breakthrough in games like this, they become dangerous. But our main objective was to get through to the next round & we managed to do that so we are happy. The manner in which we done it wasn’t important. For those who haven’t played as much, myself included, it was a good opportunity to get some match time into the legs. Now we must think about the Udinese game & we will certainly be looking back on what didn’t work well for us tonight.” He was then asked what the players said to Yuto Nagatomo before he stepped up to score the match winning penalty in the shootout “we obviously told him he had to score, he did & now he treat us all to a drink..”

The former Hull City player ended with a thought on young Frenchman Yann Karamoh who struggled to make a positive impression in his first start for Inter last night against Pordenone: “Let’s give him some time. He’s a great lad & a promising talent.”
