Sassuolo central defender Francesco Acerbi made his 100th consecutive league start at the weekend. To make the feat even more impressive, the 29-year-old has played every single minute of the Neroverdi’s last 100 Serie A games too.

Inter legend Javier Zanetti holds the Serie A record for most consecutive appearances with 162 and Acerbi was asked if he could match the now Inter vice president’s record.

“Reach Zanetti’s record? Maybe but he is a monster! I saw him a few days ago and he could still play very well even now,” he told Sky Sports.

Acerbi then discussed some of his personal ambitions and spoke on what beating cancer twice did to him.

“I hope to play as well as possible for my team. I was hoping to go to a great team in the summer but I will try again. Going to Milan was very immature of me, after what happened to me I became a man.”
