In an interview with Radio Punto Zero, former Napoli midfielder Francesco Montervino, talked about his time with the Partenopei and shared some interesting anecdotes, one particularly interesting anecdote concerned the transfer market and current Napoli player and captain Marek Hamsik, who recently became Napoli’s all time highest goal scorer, equaling Diego Maradona:

Montervino stated that: “at the time, Hamsik wanted to end up in a club where he could be sure to leave his mark on the club’s history. I know that he therefore  turned down lucrative offers from, at the time, big clubs such as Inter, AC Milan and Manchester United.”

Montervino heaped praise on Hamsik, who is 1 goal away from going ahead of Maradona as the club’s alltime highest goal scorer, for his loyalty to Napoli stating that: “He has always decided to play under the shadow of the Mount Vesuvio, and above all he is a very serious professional.”
