Inter coach, Luciano Spalletti, shared his thoughts on the 1-1 draw in the Serie A away against Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence in an interview with Sky Sport Italia after the match.

Your evaluation of this game? The result compared to the team’s performance?

“It is interesting analysing tonight’s performance. We can say that in some moments we did good and in other moments we did not. We suffered a lot from counter attacks, we lost the ball in the middle of the pitch where they put pressure on our defensive line, this must not happen. We created good opportunities on our passes, but they were poorly managed both from a technical and a creative point of view. Nagatomo had a fever and could not handle some situations which led us to suffer on our wide left. If we would have scored on the two occasions given to us we would have gone home with the victory, however we did not succeed at that and we go home with one point.”

If you try to find qualities from some of the players, are you disappointed in Joao Mario?

“I choose to analyse the game from a collective point of view instead of an individual point of view. It is easy to find the qualities of most of our players and from that create a strong collective and from there find the shortcomings of other players when it comes to individual performance. I want everybody to be part of a collective judgement, we have all the characteristics that are needed and by judging everybody from that point of view we also find where we have to improve.”

You were tired, there was a long distance between the different departments of the team with no connection between the one that pushed up and the one that fell back.

“On the pitch you realised that their play was at their central right where Chiesa pushed forward and all of a sudden neither of our departments could give support. A consequense of that was that we moved to the right and we suffered. They always did the same thing, giving the fullback offensive space and leaving the midfielder behind at which point Chiesa could move in as a trequartista. Then we lost some crucial balls in midfield, giving them the opportunity to counter attack. This led us to defend in our area which gave them more opportunities. Ranocchia was incredible, especially since yesterday was his first practice this week.”

Do you think of any resources that can br brought in from the transfer market?

“I do no think about protecting myself, this is our team and these are the difficulties we have been having. I will not talk about stuff that will protect my job here at Inter. Everybody thinks we need a central defender, if we do we need to invent something. Santon is practicing on exactly this. Nagatomo could not train due to a fever and if he could not have played I would have to put someone else in the central position. These are discussions that you have, I strongly believe in the direction I have taken with the means at my disposition and I can not say that I lack anything. Right now we have to take care of this difficulties and play this championship as we intended to. Worst case scenario you play with a Primavera player, you can play football although you do not have the players you want at your disposal.”
