Inter have officially announced the arrival of defender Lisandro Lopez on an initial six month loan deal that involves the Nerazzurri having an option to turn the loan permanent.

The 28-year-old arrives at Inter from Portuguese giants Benfica who he has been with since 2013. A centre back by trade, the Argentine, who holds a Spanish passport, will give Luciano Spalletti’s defence some much needed cover.

Inter broke the news through way of a statement on the official club website where they also charted Lopez’s career story so far.

Lopez’s arrival in Milan marks Inter’s first foray in to the transfer market this window. Inter are Lopez’s fifth club following spells with Arsenal de Sarandi, Chicarita Juniors, Benfica, Getafe (loan).

This season Lopez – who has been capped at senior international level four times – has made eight appearances for Benfica. He is under contract with Benfica through to 2021 unless Inter chose to take up their option to turn the loan in to a permanent stay.
