Milan Skriniar has won over the hearts of many an Interista with his impressive displays this season. A summer signing from Sampdoria that almost came in under the radar to many, but the Slovakian defender has been an ever present for Inter manager Luciano Spalletti this season in Serie A and his performances have been solid and consistent. His old fashioned, no nonsense style of defending has brought about positive reviews from many.

In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Cambiasso (nicknamed El Cucho)spoke at length about the former Sampdoria defender saying: “in short, there has been no time to “protect” the boy from Ziar nad Hronom, who has responded with cockiness and a certain swagger to the pressures and pitfalls of this new reality for him. He has already managed to win over the s confident and sometimes suspicious Inter faithful.”

His performances this season have bought about comparisons to great defenders of yesteryear such as former Manchester United, Milan and Lazio defender, Jaap Stam but Cambiasso, has compared him to another former Inter player, Walter Samuel: “He reminds me so much of Walter. Mainly because he goes into contact with his opponents whilst almost never bringing about a foul. He sends out a message to his opponent straight away. It’s like he’s saying “Friend, you will not pass”. In Today’s modern game there are plenty of defenders who can come out and play the ball out of defence, but there is a lack of defenders like Skriniar who can actually defend.” High praise and important words from Cambiasso that won’t go unnoticed especially in terms of the transfer market where as he says himself, defenders that can actually defend are hard to come by in the modern game.
