If Inter fail to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League there is absolutely no guarantee that club captain and star man Mauro Icardi will remain with the club Corriere dello Sport believe.

Not making the Champions League will force Inter in to making a big sale for financial fair play purposes meaning Icardi could be sold as a result with him being the clubs most marketable asset. Moreover, the players personal ambitions also have to be taken in to consideration amid interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain, who will no doubt be in the Champions League.

The easiest way to all but guarantee Icardi staying with the Nerazzurri is for him to sign a new contract where the €110 million release clause is massively increased or removed altogether.

The 24-year-old striker has 22 goals this term but has failed to find the net in the last four games in all competitions as Inter’s poor run of form continues, with them failing to pick up a victory in their last nine fixtures.
