Former Inter manager Luigi Simoni drew comparisons between what football was like when he was in charge of Inter 20 years ago to nowadays.

“We were always thinking about getting better every day, there was always a lot of work to do. Today, from a technical point of view, many things have changed. There is also this exaggeration of expenses and the media exposure often creates problems,” he told Corriere dello Sport.

“As a coach, I valued the human aspects more over the technical ones. I tried to make the players live well, to make them reason by setting limits for themselves. Now I have the feeling that the mentality is different and shows the fact that often the players do not accept the will of their clubs as much.”

Simoni concluded the interview by discussing two of the stars he managed, Ronaldo and Andrea Pirlo.

“Ronaldo and Pirlo played with an unlimited amount of passion. Of course, money was important, but it represented a secondary aspect for them.”
