In a long interview granted to Slovakian media outlet Sport, Inter’s Slovakian international defender Milan Skriniar talked about a wide variety of subjects, ranging from the the difficult period that Inter are going through as well as his future with the club.

Two months ago you had scored your third goal in the league and Inter were top of the table but since then…

“You are right. There has not been many changes, the workouts are the same but the results do not come. I think this will change from just a single result. It would bring a positive mood back to the changing rooms. Inter is not a club that is used to not winning a game for two months.”

What happened in these two months?

“We always talk about this, watching the games on replay but we cannot understand. We do our best each game but it doesn’t make  a difference. I think we all have to give something extra. Show a bit of individual skill. If we all do that then surely the results will come again.”

Spal, Fiorentina, Crotone, is there a problem with keeping the door shut or is it the lack of goals?

“Of course it is a collective mistake every time. On the other hand, it might be the case that the opposition go all out attack in the 90th minute and score so you have to be ready for it but if you’re having 10 shots and 5 or 6 are clean then you have to score them. Unfortunately though, we’re not creating as many chances.”

Napoli and Juventus are far ahead in the table, do you think either of them will face a crisis similar to Inter in the coming weeks?

“At the beginning of the season and even during the middle of the season we declared that our objective was to qualify for the Champions League. Of course when we were first, we were all very happy and some thoughts about the Scudetto arose but we should worry about winning and not dropping points. We have a clear goal. The teams around us like Roma and Lazio could collapse but Napoli and Juventus are a different story. They are used to playing tough games but can also beat the weaker teams. We had also done this, 17 games without losing is a very nice statistic but the draw against Pordenone, a lower division team, in the Italian Cup, left its mark.”

Real Madrid, Barca, Manchester United and City would like you…

“I am happy to know that. There were so many offers during the winter but I never considered leaving. Certainly not during the Winter. I was happy when Inter said that they would not let me go. I want to keep growing and then we’ll see what happens in the summer. Other players may come out of World Cup in Russia and the situation might change.”

Your agent, Csonto, said that Inter refused a €65 million bid from one of the top European clubs this January. What were you told?

“I wasn’t told the specifics, although I understand that is a breathtaking sum. I must admit that it does not take much to raise prices. I did not try anything smart myself, I left it all in the hands of my agent. I was told that Inter would not let me go, I would like to stay but if Inter had agreed then I would have gone. Karol told me that I would be staying and I was happy. I said that I could not wait to concentrate on Inter again.”

For which big club would you like to play?

“I do not know. To attract the likes of Real Madrid or Barcelona is amazing but even the teams in Manchester are top clubs as well. The Premier League is the most competitive in the world even if this season is being dominated by Manchester City. It would be difficult to decide which club to go to. It would also depend on the agreements and what role they could guarantee me. If I had to go to a club to sit on the bench, then I wouldn’t go. I think if I go somewhere it will be a club where I have real chances to play.”

Stanislav Lobotka was approached by Inter in January. Have you been in contact with him? Would you welcome him if he entered the Nerazzurri locker room?

“Spalletti also asked me about him. Of course I would be happy if he came to Inter because he would help us a lot. The request was probably too high for Inter, but I told him he would end up at Real Madrid or Barcelona in the Summer. I can see him there.”

So you and Lobotka will find yourself together at a club?

“It would be better [laughs]. Do you know what the paradox is? When I played for Zilina and he played for Trenchin we didn’t think we would get to speak about these things again. And now we are really talking about rumours to Barcelona and Real Madrid.”
