To avoid another transfer of minimal spending and the consequent effects in the medium to potentially long term, Inter cannot afford to miss out on the monetary benefits of the Champions League, even beyond the prestige of playing in Europe this time. Gazzetta dello Sport writes that it is essential to the budget and technical operations, with 50 million euros at stake.

In order to qualify for the Champions League this season, Inter must finish at least fourth. They would gain €20 million for at least qualifying, another €30 million from sponsors – in addition to attracting new ones – more money from the broadcast deal where the current deal meant that finishing 7th earned Inter €76 million, with even a few more million from the broadcasters of the Champions League depending on how far they go.

Alternatively to this, if Inter were to not qualify for the Champions League, it would mean the sale of one of their most valuable players, with all arrows currently pointing to Icardi, the only one able to secure an absolute monstrous sum of money. By securing 4th place however, Inter would be able to keep their big name players and could instead sell less valuable players to be reinvested.
