Inter are one of four clubs currently keeping tabs on Atletico Madrid centre back Jose Maria Gimenez according to Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The Nerazzurri face competition from Juventus, Roma and Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United for the signature of the Uruguayan, who has a release clause of €60 million in his contract with the Spanish outfit.

The 23-year-old, who holds dual Spanish nationality, came in to links with Inter last summer and was viewed as a potential free transfer for this coming summer due to the fact he had an expiring contract. Eager not to lose one of the best young defenders, Atleti moved to tie him down to the club until the summer of 2020 which allowed them to insert the aforementioned release clause.

This term, Gimenez has made 31 appearances in all competitions under Diego Simeone, primarily as a centre back but he has also played at both left and right full back and even in defensive midfield.
