Inter have confirmed that Andrea Ranocchia is set for a period on the sidelines after an MRI scan on his thigh. As a result of the injury, the 30-year-old central defender will miss this Sunday’s fixture away to Sampdoria.

The former Inter captain was forced to leave the training pitches early yesterday and the club have confirmed the injury through way of a statement posted on the official club website.

“An MRI scan was performed on Andrea Ranocchia today at the Istituto Clinico Humanitas in Rozzano after the defender withdrew early from training yesterday. The tests revealed grade one damage to the rectus femoris muscle in his right thigh.”

The club also confirmed that, “Ranocchia will be evaluated again after the league stops for the international break.”

This season, Ranocchia has struggled to nail down a starting berth due to the rock solid partnership formed by Milan Skriniar and Miranda and made just eight appearances.
