With Lautaro Martinez’s summer transfer to Inter lacking only official confirmation, the media have began to speculate what this will mean for the way that Nerazzurri boss Luciano Spalletti will deploy his side next season.

Barring no more than a handful of occasions, Spalletti has set Inter up in a 4-2-3-1 formation this season, with club captain Mauro Icardi leading the way on his own. With the arrival of Martinez, one of the top up and coming Argentine strikers, sticking with a 4-2-3-1 formation and not fully utilising him does not seem a sensible option.

Therefore, Gazzetta dello Sport believe that Spalletti will change the formation to a 4-3-1-2 instead in order to fit both Icardi and Martinez in the team together. From July onwards, Spalletti can begin the process of establishing the new formation and form the foundations of what he, and Inter, will hope will be a solid partnership up top.
