Speaking exclusively to Premium Sport, Inter manager Luciano Spalletti sent his congratulations to his former side Roma, for their historic Champions League quarter final victory over Barcelona.

The Roman side overturned a 1-4 deficit from the first leg, winning 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico to eliminate the highly fancied Spanish side.

“This is a great success for Roma. They played the perfect match and they deserved to win. It is an important result for Italy as a whole, which you can see by the fact that everyone is talking about the amazing events. My congratulations go to Roma.”

The Tuscan manager sat on the Roma bench on 292 occasions over two separate spells (2005-2009, and 2016-2017). Over this period he won two Coppa Italia, in 2006-07 and 2007-08, and the Italian Super Cup in 2007. Spalletti departed the club by mutual consent in May 2017 after guiding Roma to second place and setting their record points tally in Serie A.
