With his goal in Tuesday night’s 4-0 rout of Cagliari, Mauro Icardi joined an elite club of players to have scored 25+ league goals in a season for Inter.

The 25-year-old joins Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic (both 25 goals), Istvan Nyers (30), Giuseppe Meazza (31) and Antonio Angelillo (33).

However, despite this, it still does not seem like it will be enough to convince Argentine national team manager Jorge Sampaoli and Roman newspaper Corriere dello Sport have questioned the former Sevilla manager as to why he wouldn’t take Icardi.

“The Argentine striker demolishes one record after another and has another five games to reach 30 league goals, but above all his goal is to guide his team in to the Champions League.

“Icardi has always said that at this moment he only thinks of scoring for Inter and that he does not waste energy thinking about the World Cup. He could go to the Qatar World Cup, at the age of 29, but he is already fully matured and is recording the best season of his career. Are you sure this Icardi can not serve Argentina?”
