Manchester United have set their sights upon signing Joao Cancelo to replace Matteo Darmian according to a report from UK newspaper the Express.

The Portuguese full back’s performances for Inter have not gone unnoticed and his compatriot, current Manchester United and former Inter manager Jose Mourinho wishes to add him to his ranks to replace the Italian who has not lived up to expectations.

Cancelo joined the Nerazzurri in the summer on a loan deal from Valencia and after a slow start has asserted himself as a key cog in manager Luciano Spalletti’s 4-2-3-1 system in recent months.

Inter have first option on Cancelo due to the €35 million redemption option within the loan contract but that is not to say Cancelo himself may reject Inter’s advances in favour of a move to the English giants instead.

Since arriving, the 23-year-old has made a total of 23 appearances, providing one goal and delivering two assists across all competitions.
