Former Inter defender and Triplete legend Marco Materazzi spoke to RMC Sport on Friday about Serie A’s race for the Champions League and had some praise for Yann Karamoh.

Materazzi was part of the team that secured the Nerazzurri’s last triumph in Europe’s top club competition under Jose Mourinho in 2010, but does not expect Luciano Spalletti’s current side to find qualifying for next season’s tournament easy.

“There are three teams fighting for two spots,” he told RMC Sport. “It will be a good fight.”

The Italian was then asked about Karamoh, who impressed during Inter’s 4-0 win over Cagliari on Tuesday, and praised the player for his confidence.

“I’ve liked him from the first day he joined Inter,” he said. “He’s young, carefree, he takes players on and he’s not scared of playing at San Siro. He has personality.”

Materazzi also touched upon Italy’s elimination from the 2018 FIFA World Cup, saying “we should have come to terms with it by now. Now we need to restart with a new coach.”
