Lautaro Martinez is ‘unlikely’ to stay at Racing Avellanada beyond the upcoming summer, according to club president Victor Blanco.

Inter have already agreed a deal with the Argentine club to sign Martinez for a fee in the region of €22 million, but there had been suggestions in recent weeks that Racing wanted to keep the forward until the end of 2018, before leaving him to move to Italy.

However Blanco appeared pessimistic about the possibility of such an arrangement when interviewed by ESPN on Thursday, following Racing’s 4-0 victory over Vasco de Gama in the Copa Libertadores.

“Lautaro has done everything he needed to do in order to stand a chance of being taken to the World Cup,” he said, “but I think it’s unlikely that he’ll stay with us beyond the summer.”

Martinez has made 57 appearances for Racing in all competitions since making his first-team debut in November 2015, scoring 26 goals.

He has scored 4 goals in 3 games so far in the current edition of the Copa Libertadores, including a hat-trick on his debut in the competition against Cruzeiro.
