Inter captain Mauro Icardi spoke in length with Argentine news outlet Olè ahead of this weekend’s Derby D’Italia with Juventus. The striker touched on a number of different topics and firstly spoke on reaching 100 goals for Inter.

“I am happy to have entered into the history of a great club like Inter. For me it is a source of pride, something I could never have imagined. It is not easy to reach these numbers in Italy, but I thank all my teammates who made it possible.”

He proceeded to discuss receiving the captain’s armband at such a young age, Inter missing out on their objectives in recent years and the continuous transfer rumours concerning him.

“Everything happened little by little, but it is representative of my work in the club and with the team and the commitment I feel for this shirt.

“Maybe things did not go as planned, but I’m always very optimistic and I’m sure Inter will soon be where it deserves to be.

“It’s always nice to feel valued and I think it’s a consequence of my growth, which is why personal results are also achieved, such as being taken into consideration by other big clubs. I am very calm and I am always focused on my goals and those of my team. The future can not be guessed, so I enjoy the present and try to give my best.”

Icardi then spoke on the World Cup, which, if reports are to be believed, he will be snubbed for.

“I always try to do my best with my club, as I have been doing for the past five years, and at a World Cup like this, those who are going through their best moment will go. I am 25 years old, I have been Inter’s captain for three years and I have entered in to the history of this club with my goals, and I dream of going to the World Cup either now or in the future. All my compatriots in Italy show me their love and their desire to see me in the shirt. They ask me sometimes why I’m not called up, they see what I do in the Nerazzurri and they want to see me in the Seleccion.”
