Inter have received a boost in their pursuit of Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira after the player’s agent ruled out a move to Napoli in the summer.

Reports in recent weeks had suggested that the Partenopei were close to securing the services of the talented 22 year-old, who currently has a release clause of €25m, after making significant progress in talks with the Uruguayan’s entourage.

However Torreira’s agent Pablo Bentancur has taken a backwards step and stated that he is now negotiating with other clubs instead.

“We had a basic agreement in place with Napoli,” he told Radio Crc, “but due to some problems that emerged I’m now talking with other clubs. We’ve gone our separate ways.”

The announcement comes as good news for Inter, who have long been admirers of Torreira and could now attempt to regain ground in a race they appeared to have lost.

Torreira has made 66 appearances and scored 4 goals for Sampdoria since joining the Blucerchiati from Pescara in 2016, and made his debut for the Uruguayan national team in March.
