In the hours after Inter’s heavy 2-3 defeat against Juventus, Nerazzurri coach Luciano Spalletti reflected on the match at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milano’s San Siro district with some bitterness in an interview with Radio Rai.

Spalletti began by praising the home supporters stating: “We must acknowledge the highlight of the night: the 80,000 fans who supported us and deserved to be repaid. Other than that, the team put in a fantastic performance – especially considering the numerical inferiority. The result obviously have consequences that will weigh heavily on our minds, and it will be difficult to move on quickly.”

The manager was then questioned on his decision to substitute goal scorer Mauro Icardi for Davide Santon, and took full responsibility: “A change can have an impact on the entire game. I am responsible for the substitution and I will pay for that choice.”

Finally, the former Roma man was asked about the episode involving Miralem Pjanic and Rafinha, but chose not to stoke controversy. “We accept the decision, just as we did with that of Vecino.”

The Uruguayan was sent off early in the match for a stamp on Mario Mandzukic.
