Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to make a swoop for Barcelona midfielder Rafinha after Inter failed to sign the player on a permanent basis, according to reports in the Catalan press.

Rafinha spent the second half of the 2017-18 season playing on loan for the Nerazzurri, scoring two goals and providing three assists in 17 appearances in Serie A, but has now returned to Spain with Inter unable to exercise the €35 million buy-out option they agreed upon in January.

Catalan newspaper Sport reported on Monday that Barcelona are extremely irritated with Inter’s decision not to pay the pre-arranged fee, as they had expected them to do so had Luciano Spalletti’s side secured qualification for the Champions League.

Should the two clubs not reach a new agreement for Rafinha by the end of this week then Barcelona will begin to listen to other offers, with Tottenham reported to be strongly interested in the Brazilian.
