Inter are not interested in signing former Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes despite recent reports linking them with the player, according to Sportitalia.

Fernandes enjoyed a successful 2017-18 season with the Portuguese outfit, scoring 16 goals and providing 20 assists for Jorge Jesus’s side in all competitions, but has now rescinded his contract with the club – along with many other key players – following an incident in May that saw a group of fans break into their training complex and attack several members of the squad.

Before signing for Sporting last summer the 23 year-old, who will represent Portugal at this summer’s World Cup, spent five years in Italy playing for Novara, Udinese and Sampdoria, and in the last few days it had been rumoured that Inter were interested in bringing Fernandes, now a free agent, back to Serie A.

However Sportitalia denied this on Wednesday night, reporting that the Nerazzurri are not interested in signing the player and have not made contact with his entourage.
