Matias Vecino is close to renewing his contract with Inter following yesterday’s meeting, when his agent was at Inter’s headquarters to discuss this among other things Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport reports.

According to the report the extension is only for one more season from his current deal set to expire at the end of June 2021 to 2022 which “also explains the reason why Alessandro Lucci was in the Nerazzurri headquarters and this was a topic of discussion with Piero Ausilio.”

However, is this new contract just part of Inter’s new strategy to reduce depreciation rates of their players as has been suggested by UEFA who penalised the club for this last week?

Vecino was bought a year ago from Fiorentina for €24 million, and could now be sold for a profit as the Uruguayan’s remaining value of €18 million is further spread over the next 4 years. Therefore, if a suitable offer is put on the Nerazzzurri’s table, it could lead Ausilio to consider a sale, similarly to that of Candreva’s.

Matias Vecino, the man who scored the final goal that brought Inter back to Champions League, is reprtedly greatly admired by Maurizio Sarri who is getting closer to a new job in charge of Chelsea.
