Real Madrid could pursue Inter captain Mauro Icardi in the event that star man Cristiano Ronaldo leaves the Santiago Bernabeu this summer according to a report from Spanish news outlet Diario Gol.

Ronaldo, who is currently at the World Cup with Portugal, is reportedly furious that Los Blancos are unwilling to meet his contract demands that would bring him in line with the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar.

The 33-year-old still has three years left to run on his current contract but after four Champions League wins in the past five years, he is looking for an increase in salary.

Icardi is among four names believed to be on Real Madrid’s shopping list should they be forced in to parting ways with the multi-time Balon D’Or winner who is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballer’s of all time.

Icardi is joined on the shortlist by Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowsi, RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, despite the fact Kane only signed a new six-year deal with the Premier League club two weeks ago.
