Milan Skriniar has admitted to being “happy” that Inter rejected the advances of Manchester United in an interview with the Slovakian Football Association after successful eye surgery.

“Manchester United’s interest in me? I heard from them and it made me proud but I am happy that Inter decided to reject it and that they believe so much in me,” the defender said.

The 23-year-old then revealed he had played through the season with the injury – that reportedly reduced his vision by 40% – and is excited to see the benefits the surgery has for him on the pitch.

“For a while I was using glasses, but I had trouble getting the correct lenses so I did not use them: so I thought about the operation. My sight was not that bad where I could not see at all but I still can not wait to see the difference on the pitch. I was a little afraid of the operation, but luckily it went well.”
