Mousa Dembele is Inter’s number one target for the midfield now the deal for Radja Nainggolan is as good as complete but Sky Sport Italia Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed Inter have also explored the possibility of signing William Carvalho.

The Portuguese midfielder is among a host of players to have terminated their contract with Sporting Lisbon following a training ground attack by the club’s ultras.

Despite the 26-year-old being a free agent, Di Marzio warns that Inter and any other clubs who sign players who terminated their contract with the Primeira Liga side could face fines due to the fact that Sporting are going to FIFA to dispute their terminations.

Inter’s interest in Carvalho – who made a combined 38 appearances across all competitions last season – dates back quite some time and he was seen as a possible addition during the January transfer window prior to the Nerazzurri signing Rafinha from Barcelona.
